Northwoods Housing Complex lunches
St. Thomas provides one week's worth of lunches for children at Northwoods Housing Complex
Schedule: one week during summer
Coordinator: Nancy King
- This annual sandwich-making event offers one summer week of
nutritious lunches to 50 children. Various churches throughout the
Upper Valley each agree to provide lunches for a week, for the
duration of the summer program.
- Before the sandwich making day, volunteers shop for bread,
sandwich meats and cheeses, PB and J, a piece of fruit, fruit drinks,
and a snack.
- Between services on the day of the lunch making, volunteers set up
tables with all the food to be organized into the 5 days for which we
are responsible.
- After the 10:00 service, parishioners arrive and quickly prepare
250 sandwiches and organize them and the other items into daily
packages.
- After assembling the lunches, volunteers deliver them to the low
income housing site where Vermont State Housing Authority personnel
receive, refrigerate and store the food for the next five days.
